The family of slain civil rights figure Emmett Till is still looking for a formal apology from Lil Wayne. The rapper has been criticized for his vulgar lyrics about Till in the remix to Future's track "Karate Chop."
Now, Till's cousin Airicka Gordon-Taylor tells TMZ.com that a letter from Wayne to Till's family "falls short of an apology." In the statement, the rapper does acknowledge the family's pain, but never uses the word "apology." Gordon-Taylor is also the executive director of the Mamie Till Mobley Memorial Foundation. While she is quick to point out the absence of an actual apology, she commends Weezy for his vow to never use Till's name in his music again.
Emmett Till's family recently announced that they planned to put pressure on the soft drink company Mountain Dew for sponsoring Lil Wayne.
Till was tortured and killed in 1955 after supposedly flirting with a white woman during a trip to Mississippi. His legacy went on to help inspire the Civil Rights Movement.
