UNIVERSAL HIP HOP MUSEUM LL Cool J, Nas and Fat Joe Groundbreaking Ceremony

The stars were out last week for the groundbreaking of the new Universal Hip Hop Museum.

LL Cool J, Nas, and Fat Joe are just some of the greats who made an appearance at the site, located on the Harlem River waterfront in The Bronx. Others in attendance included Grandmaster Flash, Slick Rick, Chuck D and local politicians.

The 52,000 square-foot museum is located two miles from the birthplace of hip-hop, 1520 Sedgwick Avenue. The $80 million project is being financed through a combination of city, state and private money. After some pandemic-related delays, the museum hopes to open up in 2024.

The new museum will be a part of a development called Bronx Point. The complex includes affordable housing and public open space, in addition to cultural and community-focused programming, which includes the permanent home of the Universal Hip Hop Museum.
