The CDC's National Center for Health Statistics released a report showing that COVID-19 was largely responsible for the life expectancy dropping from 78.8 years to 77.3 years in 2020. It's the largest single-year decline since World War Two. The statistics also show that Black and Hispanic communities saw the biggest declines.

But the pandemic isn't the only cause of the decline. Drug overdose deaths were also a factor, with more than 93,000 deaths reported -- the highest number reported in a single year. (USA Today)
