R Kelly Admits To ‘Underage Sexual Contact’ With Aaliyah

In a statement with The Independent, Kelly’s lawyer, Thomas A Farinella, wrote “The defence does concede that Mr. Kelly had underage sexual contact with Jane Doe #1.”

Kelly’s lawyers had attempted to dismiss claims from prosecutors due to “Jane Doe’s untimely death.” Aaliyah died in a plane crash in 2001 at the age of 22.

In 1994 Aaliyah said in an interview that she was “close” to R. Kelly but never admitted to marrying him. The marriage was ultimately annulled by Aaliyah’s parents shortly after the ceremony.
