Without Chicago's stats in there, this is basically meaningless.

It'd be interesting to see how much of this came after the big push to scale back police funding.

New York has actually said that its crime rate is falling lately.

Seeing as murder is up but overall crime is down, it doesn't sound like a lack of police presence. It sounds like too many guns.

That's the largest single-year increase in the six decades the FBI has been recording statistics.

Overall, there was a 5% increase in violent crime -- robberies and rape were both down, compared to 2019. And overall, crime reports dropped by 6%.

However, the data is considered incomplete, because reporting from local agencies is optional. New York and Chicago are among the cities that did not submit data to the FBI. (The Hill)
