IN BLANKSTARE NEWS: Tis the season for Valentine's roaches ...

The zoo's Name-a-Roach event allows people to name a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach in honor of their love, or former love, for Valentine's Day. It costs $15 and comes with a certificate.

It's time again for lovers, or jilted lovers, to send a message to someone by naming a cockroach after them. Several zoos, including New York's famed Bronx Zoo, are offering people the opportunity to name a cockroach in honor of their valentine. The zoo's Name-a-Roach event allows people to name a Madagascar Hissing Cockroach in honor of their love, or former love, for Valentine's Day. It costs $15 and comes with a certificate. You can also pay $75 for "The Works" package, which also includes a tumbler, tote, and a virtual visit with the roach. The Bronx Zoo's website says, "You don’t always have the right words, but you can still give them goosebumps. Name a Roach for your Valentine, because roaches are forever."

The San Antonio Zoo has a similar offer where you can name a cockroach after your ex and then watch it be eaten by a reptile. The El Paso Zoo, the Houston Museum of Natural Science, the Toronto Zoo, and Florida Aquarium are all offering some type of name-a-roach event for Valentine's Day.
