COVID: New Boosters May be Available Next Week

The updated booster is designed to target new XBB.1.5 omicron subvariant, but is also believed to be effective against the most recent BA.2.86 subvariant, also known as "Pirola."

Health experts advise those wanting a COVID booster shot to wait for the newest one for the best protection this fall and winter.
If you've recently had COVID, you could wait three months before getting the new jab.
It's also safe to get the COVID booster and flu shot at the same time.

With COVID cases on the rise again and new variants circulating around the country, the new round of booster shots could start going into arms as early as next week.

The Food and Drug Administration is expected to authorize the shots in a matter of days and the CDC's panel of advisors plans to meet next Tuesday to approve the rollout of the doses which could begin as early as next Wednesday for those who are most at risk including people over 65 and those who are immunocompromised.
