National Change a Pet’s Life Day is Saturday, January 24, 2026, and the Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is inviting the community to make a direct, lifesaving impact for local homeless pets through its Change a Pet’s Life Day Wishlist.
This year, JHS is highlighting the power of giving by making it easy for animal lovers to donate essential and unconventional items that help pets heal, find comfort, and prepare for adoption. From cozy bedding and enrichment toys to treats, laundry detergent, and medical recovery supplies, every Wishlist item plays a critical role in a pet’s journey from intake to home.
One such journey belongs to Bismuth, a 4-year-old dog whose life was transformed with the help of community generosity and items featured on the Wishlist.
Bismuth was found alone by a kindhearted Samaritan, suffering from a painful skin condition. When he arrived at JHS, the medical team immediately began treatment. Thanks to donated Wishlist items like medicated shampoo and tasty treats, Bismuth started healing right away. Regular medicated baths soothed his skin, while treats helped turn each treatment into a positive, trust-building experience.
With consistent care and the everyday supplies made possible by supporters, Bismuth regained his health, comfort, and confidence. He later participated in a JHS Dog Day Out Adventure, where he met the family who would give him the loving home he deserved.
The Change a Pet’s Life Day Wishlist allows supporters to see exactly what JHS pets need most and have items shipped directly to the shelter, turning compassion into immediate action.
