Florence Drops To A Cat Three, Top Winds 120

Miami, Fla.-(Newsradio 970 WFLA)- The latest update shows Florence weaker but moving steadily toward landfall in the Carolinas.

As of 5:00 p.m. Florence is center about 420 miles east of Myrtle Beach SC, top winds 120 miles per hour, heading NW at 16 miles per hour. Forecasters expect it to near the coast late Thursday with the center staying offshore Friday before a Saturday landfall.

All watches and warnings remain in effect, including a storm surge warning and a hurricane warning from Duck in the Outer Banks to the South Santee River, including the Neuse and Pamlico river basins and Albemarle and Pamlico Sound.

Florence is expected to produce torrential rain…. 20 inches or more in parts of Coastal North and South Carolina, with some isolated areas getting as much as 40 inches.

There's a new storm on the map, Post-Tropical Storm Joyce, which is expected to avoid land and possibly threaten the Azores. 

Hurricane Helene is expected to continue moving northward in the Atlantic, later turning northeastward toward the Azores and western Europe. 

Tropical Storm Isaac, top winds 60, continues moving west toward the Lesser Antilles with no expectation of a northward turn over the next five days.
