Ty Dolla $ign Drops Collab-Heavy New Album 'Featuring Ty Dolla $ign'

Ty Dolla $ign's new album Featuring Ty Dolla $ign features, well, everyone!

The effort comes three years after the hip-hop and R&B hitmaker's last album, Beach House 3. It is a project that while titled Featuring Ty Dolla $ign, has a boatload of additional features from some of the biggest names in music.

In an exclusive interview with iHeartRadio, Ty spoke about the LP, which he described as a solidifying final piece for his title as the "King of collaboration." He also explained how he approached creating the album while adjusting to the pandemic-induced "new normal."

"I locked in on the title Featuring Ty Dolla $ign for this album because that's what my fans wanted," he shared when asked how he came up with the album name. "That's what team Dolla wanted. I know that they enjoy all of my Ty Dolla $ign features. So, I thought who better to get for the album. So I feature Ty Dolla $ign on my album."

When it comes to the album's actual features, Ty got more than just a few of his famous friends to hop on the project. As he explained to iHeart, just about everyone is a part of the 25-track LP.

"My brothers Kanye West, Anderson .Paak and Thundercat [are on this album]. They're all my favorite artists to work with," he shared. "Kid Cudi is also featured. You don't hear Cudi on too many people's albums or records. We definitely have a big spark when it comes to getting in and making music. So he came through for me."

Roddy Ricch, JhenĆ© Aiko, Kehlani, FKA Twigs, Big Sean, Lil Durk, Gunna, Future, Nicki Minaj, Burna Boy, Quavo, and Post Malone are also featured on the LP. Not to mention, the album has a few legendary samples ā€” one being from the queen, Erykah Badu.

"This album is an advancement of all of my previous projects," Ty said, noting that while Featuring Ty Dolla $ign is still 100% Ty Dolla $ign, the project is in a lane of its own when compared to his past discography. And while he is known for making club bangers, Ty admitted that the pandemic's effect on club life, which is almost non-existent at this point, didn't affect the way he approached his music nor the energy fans have come to expect to receive from it.

"I think quarantining and the pandemic had an effect on everyone's lives, but I didn't let that take over my music because I feel like music is not only a thing that makes us all happy and brings us together, but it's also an energy and I put good energy into this album," Ty said. "I just want the people to feel the energy that I was giving and receive that same energy when you listen to the music."

He added, "It was great working on the album during quarantine 'cause it gave me a chance to really tap back into just me on the computer. I learned a lot, I learned an Ableton all the way, making mad beats again, produced most of this album, alongside my boy, James, Skrillex, and Mustard. It was a fun time. And with everything else that's going on, we still managed to stay creative."

While the LP has 25 tracks, Ty still has a favorite, admitting that "Your Turn" is "hands down" his most beloved track "because it has some of my favorite artists ever."

"Not only Ty Dolla $ign, but Musiq Soulchild, Tish Hyman, and 6LACK," he shared. "And I think the song is beautiful. It's beautifully put together from the lyrics to the melody, to the music. The music is all live, no Ableton, no Logic, no Fruity Loops, just straight-up live instruments. And it just came together so amazing."
