Tropical Storm Elsa Weakens and Slows as it Eyes Cuba En Route to Florida

(Miami, FL) -- The lower and middle Florida Keys are now under a tropical storm warning.

Parts of Southern Florida could begin seeing heavy rains from Tropical Storm Elsa by tonight. The National Hurricane Center says the Florida Keys and Florida Peninsula could get two to four inches of rain and possibly as much as six inches.

Elsa has slowed down and weakened to 60 mile-an-hour winds and is currently 50 miles North of Kingston, Jamaica, and en route to Cuba.

Elsa is moving toward the west-northwest at 13 mph. Elsa is then forecast to move near or over portions of the west coast of Florida on Tuesday and Wednesday.

CHANGES WITH THIS ADVISORY:

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for the Florida Keys from Craig Key westward to the Dry Tortugas.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the Florida Keys from Craig Key eastward to Ocean Reef, including Florida Bay.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the southwest coast of Florida from Flamingo northward to Bonita Beach.

The government of Cuba has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the provinces of Matanzas, Mayabeque, and Havana. Also, a Tropical Storm Watch for the province of Artemisa.
