Brewers Beat Rays Tuesday Night

The Milwaukee Brewers (43-33) beat the Tampa Bay Rays (40-33) 5-3 on Tuesday night at Tropicana Field.

Randy Arozarena put the Rays ahead early with a RBI single in the fourth, but the Brewers answered in the sixth inning with two-run homers from both Andrew McCutchen and Luis Urias to take a 4-1 lead.

Milwaukee added one run in the eighth before the Rays answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to pull within 5-3. That would be as close as the Rays could get as Milwaukee finished the job to secure the victory.

Shane Baz got the start for the Rays and allowed one earned run on three hits while striking out six and walking two. Matt Wisler (2-2, 2.83) came in with two outs and a runner on first in the bottom of the sixth, and allowed both homers before getting a single out. He finished with three earned runs allowed on four hits before Tyrone Taylor to pop out out to end the sixth and end his night.

It was an emotional return to Tropicana Field for some key former Rays, including Milwaukee shortstop Willy Adames and infielder Mike Brosseau. Adames was traded to Milwaukee last May for pitchers J.P. Feyereisen and Drew Rasmussen, while Brosseau was traded there in November in an offseason deal. Adames was in the lineup on Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with a single in the first inning.

The Rays and Brewers now meet in the second game of their short two-game series on Wednesday afternoon. First pitch Wednesday is scheduled for 12:10 PM - Neil Solondz begins pregame coverage at 11:30 AM on 95.3 WDAE & AM 620.
