The National Hurricane Center in Miami is monitoring the second named storm of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

Tropical Storm Bret with maximum sustained winds of 40 mph has formed in the tropics as of the 5:00 advisory from the National Hurricane Center.

Florida Weather Center Senior Meteorologist Matt Benz says as it approaches the Leeward Islands, the question becomes will that ridge weaken allowing the system turn more north or enters the eastern Caribbean as we approach the weekend.

Early models have TS Bret approaching Puerto Rico as a hurricane this weekend.
