Rap Rising: Big Sean Drops New Album 'Better Me Than You' With Gunna & More

Big Sean has finally released his highly-anticipated album Better Me Than You.

On Friday, August 30, the Detroit native delivered his brand-new LP via FF to Def Entertainment/Def Jam Recordings. Sean's latest body of work comes with fresh collaborations with Charlie Wilson, Syd, Thundercat, Eryn Allen Kane, Bryson Tiller, Kodak Black, Cash Cobain, and Ellie Goulding. It includes stand-outs like "Iconic" and "Typecast" plus previously released singles like "Yes," "On Up" and "Precision." His collaboration with The Alchemist "Together Forever" appears at the end as a bonus track. He also enlisted other beatmakers like Key Wane, Hit-Boy, Kaytranada, Turbo, Wondagurl, SkipOnTheBeat and more to thrown down on the album.

The album also features a surprise cameo from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who pops up at the end of "Break The Cycle." Better Me Than You arrived after a couple of delays. Sean originally planned to release the album earlier this month. However, he decided to hold on to it for a few more weeks to put some more finishing touches on it. He wanted to keep working on it until he made sure it came out exactly how it was supposed to be, however, he recently revealed that his mom was the one who encouraged him to drop the project as is.

“When me and Jhené [Aiko] were giving our son a bath last night, my mom called me and she was just giving me them words,” he said. “And I was just like, Look, I can keep working and make it exactly how I want it and I’ll be pushing it back forever. Or I can believe in the fire-ass work that I got right now and that’s what I’ma do."

Rare collaborations like "It Is What It Is" featuring Gunna and "Million Pieces" with DJ Premier, Teyana Taylor & Larry June appear on iHeartRadio's Rap Rising playlist this week. In addition to Sean Don's new tracks, the playlist also features new music from A$AP Rocky, Cordae, Anderson .Paak, Destroy Lonely and more.
