Sheriff: 'This Death is on My Watch'

The investigation of a triple murder in Tamarac leads to seven Broward Sheriff's Office staffers being suspended. Two sergeants, a lieutenant, and four deputies are off the force after an internal affairs investigation revealed what Sheriff Gregory Tony calls 'shortcomings' in the department.

"It is clear based on the preliminary information I've been able to acquire so far from our investigators, we fell short in a response in terms of how some of our patrol personnel had documented certain facts. It's clear that some of the investigative practices conducted by detectives was also a shortfall, " said Tony.

He promised to get to the bottom of this and make necessary changes in the agency. He promised a transparent investigation and an effective agency.

"To the public, to the community, to those mothers and women out there who think that we're going to drop the ball and this is a consistent pattern. Know this, when we rectify this situation, I'm going to send the fear of God amongst this entire agency to make damn sure we don't do this again because this death is on my watch. I'm the sheriff of this county. I'm responsible, " Tony added.

Nathan Gingles is charged with killing his estranged wife, her father, and a neighbor. Police say he fled with his 4-year-old daughter who was later found safe.
