Words uttered by one member of the Palm Beach County School Board are making news for the wrong reasons.

District 7 representative Edwin Ferguson said he had heard from people who were worried that teachers would lose their certificates after receiving a letter from the state Department of Education that warned teachers not to celebrate the assassination of Charlie Kirk online, when he said this:

"I looked at the statutes and administrative rules referenced in the September 11th DOE letter, and I’m thinking — unless you, as a parent or teacher, feel bad because I don’t miss a racist, a racist bigot at that — I don’t see how you’d be at risk of losing your teaching certificate. When we talk about the Holocaust, I have yet to hear a person of the Jewish faith say that 'I miss Adolf Hitler.'"

Amid the controversy over his comments, the West Palm Beach chapter of the NAACP is supporting Ferguson, who says he wasn't aware of Kirk prior to his assassination.
