ARTIST SPOTLIGHT: Töme

The goal is always to keep y'all updated on some of the dopest artists hitting the scene. With that being said, let me introduce you to singer and songwriter, Töme.

Born in Montreal of Canadian Nigerian heritage, Michelle Oiuwatomi Akanbi known as Töme, was influenced early on by the sounds of Rihanna, Beyonce, Alicia Keys and more. As she began to develop her own sound she wanted to create something different for listeners, something personal yet upbeat. She said “I want to change the game musically in the midAmerican industry by creating a genre still barely recognizable, AFRO-RnB."

Through her music, an additional goal is for her to empower women and allow them to feel a connection to her through her music. She uses heart break as a motivator for some of her songs but it is not to be confused with revolving around broken women. She understands and speaks to how relationships can be loving and fun but also painful.

In 2019 she had the opportunity to join her first tour with afro-beats artist Wizkid as he crossed Canada to gain not only experience, but new fans as well. Following the tour she released her debut EP "Tomesroom Chapter 1" featuring "L'amour," "Letter to Me," and a vibe called "Kickback". Her music can be streamed on all major platforms.

If you're looking for a new sound and artist to get into, be sure to catch her in a city near you.
