Many areas of Duval County are prone to flooding, and there is a possible high risk of flooding thanks to Hurricane Milton, so the Duval County Health Department Office is urging residents to be aware of the health risks.
Skin contact with flood waters alone does not present a health risk, but bacteria contaminates waters or dangerous debris can be.
Here are some tips to prevent illness or injury from flood waters:
- Still practice Basic hygiene, liking washing with soap, especially after cleaning any debris in the yard.
- Use bottles water if under a boil water notice.
- Do not eat or drink anything that has been contaminated with flood waters.
- Don't come in contact with flood waters if you have open cuts or sores. If flood waters do come in contact with any cuts, wash the area well with soap to prevent infection. If needed, seek medical attention.
