NIPSEY HUSSLE:Celebration of Life

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • Rest in power, Neighborhood Nip.
  • Nipsey’s All Money In armored truck was parked outside the venue.
  • The truth is, there's not a building big enough to fit all of Nipsey's fans and supporters under one roof.

The underlying message of Nipsey’sCelebration of Life was that “the Marathon Continues.” Family and friends took the stage to share remembrances of the late, 33-year-old rapper, and passed on Nipsey’s wisdom for how we can all have healthier, happier, more successful lives.

Nipsey’s widow,Lauren London, spoke during the family tributes portion, as did Snoop Dogg and Big Boy. Snoop shared a hilarious anecdote about how Nipsey used to push him to open up a “Doggyland” theme park. Snoop says in the end, Nipsey realized the vision of building his own world when he bought the strip mall that included The Marathon Clothing store.

Among the 21,000 in attendance were Nip’s famous friends likeBeyonce,Chance the Rapper,Cassie,Master P and Romeo. The event was shown live on BET, Tidal, YouTube and several Los Angeles TV stations.

Highlights included:

  • The ceremony began with the1500 or Nothingband performing Nipsey Hussle’s “Victory Lap” live.
  • Musical performances includedStevie Wonderperforming “Rocket Love,”Marsha Ambrosias“Fly Like A Bird,”Anthony Hamilton“Do You Feel Me” andJhene Aiko’s “Eternal Sunshine.”
  • Former president Barack Obama wrote a letter about Nipsey's contributions, which was read aloud.
  • YGandDJ Mustardwere among the more than a dozen names of “honorary pallbearers.”
