LIFE IN LOCKDOWN: Romance Swells

There’s three positive take-aways from a survey by Monmouth University in how relationships were affected by the pandemic.

Most couples say their relationship strengthened while sheltered in place. This, despite a few high-profile breakups – we’re looking at your Mary-Kate Olsen and Brian Austin Green and Kristin Cavallari.

The stress from the virus and job losses seemed to bring couples together. We craved closeness. The stay at home orders across the country offered that opportunity.

There’s three positive take-aways from a survey by Monmouth University in how relationships were affected by the pandemic.

  1. Nine out of 10 couples said their relationship improved or stayed the same during the shutdown. Psychology professor Gary Lewandowski said, (quote) “The couples who are already doing well are doing even better now,”
  2. Couples reported fewer arguments in the months of March and April. As a consequence, their sex life improved.
  3. Most said that being with a romantic partner during the pandemic helped reduce their stress levels. Yet, nearly one-third of the women disagreed. They thought the relationship added to daily stress. (The Washington Post)
