JOHNSON & JOHNSON: Single-Shot Vaccine to Ship as Early as Monday

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • I agree with Fauci – I'll take whichever one – or two -- I can get my hands on.
  • It really does seem that we are finally turning a corner in the battle with COVID.
  • There's a real concern about the variants spurring another surge, so there is an urgency to get everyone vaccinated ASAP.
On Sunday, during an interview on Meet the Press, Dr. Fauci told Americans they should take whichever authorized vaccine they can get. He argued that the single-shot Johnson & Johnson is not "weaker" than the Pfizer or Moderna two-shot vaccines.

The recently approved Johnson & Johnson single-shot COVID-19 vaccine could start shipping to various states around the country as early as Monday, giving the U.S. a third vaccine in the battle against coronavirus.

It was granted emergency authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Saturday. The manufacturer had said that it has 4 million doses of it ready to ship upon approval. By March, it expects to have 20 million doses out.

On Sunday, during an interview on Meet the Press, Dr. Fauci told Americans they should take whichever authorized vaccine they can get. He argued that the single-shot Johnson & Johnson is not "weaker" than the Pfizer or Moderna two-shot vaccines.

Fauci said, "All three of them are really quite good, and people should take the one that's most available to them. If you go to a place and you have J&J, and that's the one that's available now, I would take it. I would personally do the same thing. I think people need to get vaccinated as quickly and as expeditiously as possible." (Gothamist)
