The officer is on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
It's still impossible to understand how she could have mixed up her gun with her Taser.
In the heat of the moment, officers don't have much time to think.
It's awful to keep seeing clashes between police and protesters over another senseless shooting.
Police and National Guard members in riot gear fired gas canisters and flash-bang grenades to disperse the crowd and also faced a barrage of items thrown back at them. The crowd had mostly thinned out by about 10:30 p.m. and there were approximately 40 arrests made. There were also several reports of businesses looted.
During the demonstrations, the police department identified the officer who shot Wright as 48-year-old Kim Potter -- a 26-year veteran of the force. Earlier in the day, Brooklyn Center, Minnesota Police Chief Tim Gannon said the officer intended to draw her Taser but mistakenly pulled her gun and shot a single bullet into Wright. (NBC News)
