This morning, USA Gymnastics said, “After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition. We wholeheartedly support Simone’s decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being.
TeeRoy's 2 Cents:
Mental health is important but winning each gold medal is money in the bank for these Olympic athletes.
NBC needs Simone in primetime or TV ratings will continue to crater this Olympics.
Mental blocks happen in other sports. Baseball players cannot throw to first base. Basketball players toss air balls from the free throw line.
The greatest of all time (G.O.A.T) may fear embarrassing herself on the Olympic stage that she dominated for years.
Many say that a G.O.A.T. would never quit on their teammates.
Others say Simone quit the team competition on her worst day so that her teammates had a chance at a medal. They earned the silver.
I blame the cardboard beds for whatever has happened to Simone.
Simone Biles will not defend her Olympic title in the Gymnastics all-around competition.
Gymnasts on social media speculate that Biles suffers from “the twisties,” a slang term for when the internal human gyroscope goes haywire making gymnasts lose their bearings while flying through the air.
This morning, USA Gymnastics said, “After further medical evaluation, Simone Biles has withdrawn from the final individual all-around competition. We wholeheartedly support Simone’s decision and applaud her bravery in prioritizing her well-being. Her courage shows, yet again, why she is a role model for so many.”
Jade Carey will replace Biles and represent the United States along with Sunisa Lee in the all-around competition on Thursday. Their cumulative score in four disciplines determines the medalists.
Simone Biles may still compete in individual events. She will decide after undergoing a second medical evaluation. (NBC Sports)
