TROPICS: Grace, Henri Gathering Strength

2021 Atlantic Hurricane Names

We've woken up today (Wednesday) to two strong tropical storms in the Atlantic basin.

TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

It's only mid-August. We probably haven't seen the peak of the season yet.

We've said it before, we'll say it again: Now is the time to prepare, not when the storm is bearing down on you.

Grace has stayed along its forecast track for days now. Forecasters are having a lot more trouble pinning down Henri.

Tropical Storm Grace is in the Caribbean and headed almost due west toward the Yucatan peninsula and then the east coast of Mexico. It packs winds of 65 miles per hour, and forecasters expect it to strengthen to hurricane strength before both landfalls.

Tropical Storm Henri [pr: ahn-REE] continues its loop around Bermuda, but its forecast track has shifted significantly westward. It also packs winds of 65 miles per hour and is also forecast to become a hurricane. Though it will probably won't threaten the U.S., there's a small chance it could strike Cape Cod. It is also headed for the Canadian maritime provinces.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Fred are tracking up the Appalachians and could bring flash flooding to flood-prone areas. (National Hurricane Center)
