Then-Tropical Depression Grace didn't help by dumping tons of rain on the island nation.
With all the focus on Afghanistan, it's been easy to lose sight of the crisis in Haiti.
- That country cannot catch a break. Just this year it has been hit by two tropical systems and an earthquake, and had its president assassinated.
More U.S. military forces have been deployed to the area to help with rescue and recovery. The USS Arlington, with 600 people aboard, will arrive Friday.
In addition to the deaths, there have been more than 12,000 injuries, with more than 300 people still missing. More than 600,000 people are in need of some kind of humanitarian assistance, with 135,000 being displaced from their homes.
For those who have survived, food has become an issue, too. One humanitarian group says it has prepared thousands of meals for people who haven't eaten in days. (CBS News)
