You know some parents are going to try to badger doctors into letting their kids get the vaccine.
The best thing you can do to protect your kids now is for you to be vaccinated.
They might give a lower dose, and they might even recommend a longer interval between doses.
The full approval allows doctors to write "off-label" prescriptions -- meaning it can be prescribed for unapproved uses. But the FDA was clear that this doesn't mean younger children can get the vaccine.
The FDA says that Pfizer and Moderna are still conducting clinical trials on children 11 and younger, and that we'll have to wait until that data is in. In particular, researchers are looking to determine the proper dosage.
The trials should be complete in September, and if everything goes well, an Emergency Use Authorization for kids ages 5 to 11 should come by mid-winter. (NBC News)
