This is happening even as there are more calls for, and discussions about, gun control in the wake of the Uvalde, Texas massacre.
Gun violence always tends to increase in the summer.
Something desperately needs to be done about this.
According to data compiled by the Gun Violence Archive, which tracks shootings across the country, at least 156 people were killed between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Tuesday. Another 412 were injured. There were also 16 mass shootings responsible for at least 13 deaths. A mass shooting is defined as one in which which "four or more people are shot or killed, not including the shooter."
Seven people were shot Sunday when a fight between rival biker gangs in Henderson, Nevada erupted in gunfire. There were multiple victims, including three police officers, in shooting in downtown Charleston, South Carolina Monday night. Earlier in the day, two people were killed and two others injured in a shooting in Philadelphia. A shooting took place in Chattanooga, Tennessee Saturday injuring six teenagers, and four people were killed in Stanwood, Michigan.
