IN BLANKSTARE NEWS: Largest-Ever Freshwater Fish Caught

The freshwater stingray is the largest-ever freshwater fish ever caught. It is more than 13 feet long and has a mouth the size of a banana.

This is the kind of thing that can give you nightmares. A fisherman on the Mekong River in Cambodia hooked a 661-pound fish earlier this month.

The freshwater stingray is the largest-ever freshwater fish ever caught. It is more than 13 feet long and has a mouth the size of a banana.

Fortunately, scientists from the Wonders of Mekong research project were already in the area, and they'd been asking fishers to contact them with any unusual catches. So they were able to tag, measure and weigh the ray before it was released back into the river. The acoustic tag will allow them to track its behavior. (NBC News)
