Pre-nups on the rise … According to a new Harris Poll survey, nearly 15% of Americans who are married or engaged have signed a prenup. That’s a big jump from 2010, when only 3% of couples were getting prenups. And even if you're not married or engaged, 4 in 10 Americans today support the use of prenups in marriages.
According to a New Yorker article, prenuptial agreements are more popular now due to the amount of debt the average American incurs. Signing a prenup can protect you from having to take care of a partner's student loans, medical bills and more if something happens to them. Also, in the case of a divorce, prenups can protect both people in a relationship by ideally making the divorce proceedings a little bit easier as belongings and property are split somewhat evenly between the two.
