The Roots are hitting the road for the group’s first major arena tour in 30 years.
Of course, Questlove, Black Thought and the Legendary Roots Crew won’t be taking the stage alone. The F.O.R.C.E. Live, Frequencies of Real Creative Energy, tour will also be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of hip-hop. The bill includes LL Cool J, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Z-Trip and live special guests in each city. Quest explains, “Each city will have a rotation of hip-hop legends along for the ride and I’m not talkin: 'oh well the headliner will begin -- what 2 hours after doors open?' Nope. There is no 'opener.' There is no 'middle act,' there is no 'headliner' -- you are coming to witness a complete LIVE MIXTAPE of rotating artists go song for song. Cut for cut. Classic for classic.”
The flyer promises a “one-of-a-kind mash-up with special guests in select cities” including Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Pepa, Big Boi, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Common, De La Soul, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick, Goodie Mob, Ice-T, Jadakiss, Juvenile, MC Lyte, Method Man & Redman, Rakim, Rick Ross, and more.
