TeeRoy's 2 Cents:

  • Common "Used to Love H.E.R." -- and he still does.
  • Some folks found it amusing that Weezy was performing “Mrs. Officer” for a former district attorney.
  • It’s gonna e a shame when these hip-hop 50 celebrations come to an end.
  • Happy birthday, hip-hop!
  • There ain't no party like a VP party

A who’s who of hip-hop stars from over the years pulled up at the Vice President’s place in Washington D.C. over the weekend to celebrate the genre’s 50th birthday.

The guest list included luminaries like Lil Wayne, Common, Too $hort, Jeezy, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Doug E. Fresh, Slick Rick, MC Lyte and Wale. The veep danced along to live performances from the likes of Lil Wayne who ran through his hits like “6 Foot 7” and “Mrs. Officer” and as the DJ played classic cuts like A Tribe Called Quest’s “Bonita Applebum.” Weezy made sure to mention that he appreciated the invite, and that his mom was also appreciative.

Harris addressed the crowd in attendance, saying, “As a daughter of Oakland, California, Hip Hop has been a part of my life since its very beginning.

Afterwards, Common posted a video of his time in the nation’s capital to Instagram, writing, “What a glorious day in DC! I celebrated Hip Hop all day long. Early in the day I celebrated with vpotus @KamalaHarris and later on in the day we celebrated with my brother @robertglasper #GoodTimes.”
