It was announced that Max will not be renewing the critically acclaimed show for a third season. The comedy-drama series which has a 100-percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, starred Miami rapper KaMillion, and featured cameos from a number of artists, producers, and executives.

Cast and crew, including creator and executive producer Issa Rae, showrunner Syreeta Singleton, and stars KaMillion and Aida Osman lamented the loss on social media. Meanwhile, fans vented over not just this specific cut, but the larger trend, of shows with Black casts continuing to get the axe.

Here's what people are saying:

Issa Rae said, "I’m so proud of and grateful for Syreeta, our cast, writers and crew that made this show possible... Thanks to Sarah Aubrey and Suzanna Makkos for championing the show, and much love to the fans that tuned in weekly to root for our girls.”

Star Jonica Booth wrote, “I’m not okay. Good bye Rap Ish. Love Chastty “The Duke” Killens.”

One Twitter user wrote, "That lil DEI wave in media post 2020 was so short lived. Saturdays, Rap [Ish], Sweet Life: Los Angeles, The Wonder Years, Queens, All Rise, South Side, Grand Crew, Truth Be Told, and so many more Black shows I loved watching are canceled."

Another social media post says, "First real TV show about Southern Black women navigating the rap game and it doesn’t make it past 2 seasons. I won’t go on a tangent about how much this sucks for the future of diverse storytelling, but know that Rap Sh!t indeed made an impact on the folks it was intended for. "
