WalletHub's annual survey took a look at more than two dozen factors – from median earnings for female workers to women’s health care to the female homicide rate – and found that the best states for women to live are:

  1. Massachusetts
  2. Minnesota
  3. Vermont
  4. Maine
  5. Maryland

On the flip side, women have the hardest time living in these states, mostly due to economic factors and reproductive health issues:

  1. Oklahoma
  2. Louisiana
  3. Mississippi
  4. Alabama
  5. Texas
