Angie Stone was tragically killed over the weekend.

The 63-year-old singer and actress was leaving a performance in Montgomery, Alabama early Saturday morning and headed back to Atlanta when she was killed in a deadly car crash on the interstate. The sprinter van's eight other passengers, which included crew and backup singers, were injured. She broke into the business as a member of the trio The Sequence, which was the first all-female group signed to Sugar Hill Records. Stone first left her stamp on the music world in the late '70s into the mid-'80s with The Sequence before embarking on a solo career in the '90s and beyond, becoming an influential voice in the neo-soul subgenre. Her musical legacy lives on, not just through her own hit songs like “Wish I Didn’t Miss You” but in samples on tracks like Bruno Mars’ “Uptown Funk” and Dr. Dre’s “Keep Their Heads Ringin’.”

In addition to her career as a recording artist, she had a run in Hollywood, where she popped up in comedies like The Hot Chick and Ride Along. Her other credits include The Fighting TemptationsChicago on Broadway, and reality shows like Celebrity Fit Club and R&B Divas: Atlanta.

She is survived by her son, Michael, daughter, Diamond, and two grandchildren.
